Of 305,631 persons cleared for non-traffic penal code offenses in 2011, 1,533 (up 15.6% from the previous year) had mental disorders and 1,558 (up 0.1% (id.)) were suspected to have mental disorders. The percentage of persons with mental disorders, etc. (refers to persons with mental disorders and those suspected to have mental disorders; hereinafter the same in this section) was 1.0%.
Table 4-5-1-1 shows the number of persons with mental disorders, etc. cleared for non-traffic penal code offenses in 2011 by type of offense. By type of offense, the number of persons cleared was the largest for theft, accounting for 39.9% of the total of persons with mental disorders, etc. cleared (3,091). In addition, the percentage of persons with mental disorders, etc. of total persons cleared for respective offenses was high for arson (22.4%) and homicide (14.3%).
