3 Rate of served terms of imprisonment
Fig. 2-5-1-2 shows the rate of served terms of imprisonment (percentage of served term of imprisonment to actual term of imprisonment) by parolees sentenced to imprisonment for a determinate term over the last five years. It also shows the rate of served terms of imprisonment in 2009, being with or without previous convictions, by term of imprisonment. In recent years the proportion of those granted parole at an early stage when the rate of the served term of imprisonment was still low has been on a decreasing trend. In addition, the proportion was lower with those with previous convictions, and lower as the term of imprisonment gets longer among those sentenced to imprisonment for a term of more than one year.
