4 Cooperation between criminal justice agencies and private organizations/individuals

(1) Cooperation between correctional institutions and private organizations/individuals, etc.
  At penal institutions, as part of the special rehabilitation guidance (see Part 2, Chapter 4, Section 2, 3/Section 4, 3), in order to contribute to the improvement of education, etc., such as guidance for withdrawal from drug dependency and education from victims' viewpoint, some of the program implementation and lectures are being made in cooperation with outside private organizations/individuals, etc, and also in juvenile training schools, a similar system is adopted as part of their education.
  Also, in order to cope with the worries and fears of inmates, support in cooperation with chaplains and volunteer visitors from the private sector is being provided (see Part 2, Chapter 4, Section 2, 7).

(2) Cooperation between probation offices and private organizations/individuals, etc.
  At probation offices, as part of the categorized treatment, with persons subject to drug abuses and problematic drinking, in order to improve treatment that meets their needs, cooperation is sought with specialized medical institutions and self-help groups which consist of the subjects themselves and their families, etc. Also, with foreigners subject to probation/parole supervision, support for introduction/dispatch, etc. of interpreters is being provided in cooperation with local governments, etc. Furthermore, since the time before the comprehensive job assistant scheme for persons released from prison, etc. started, job assistance for persons subject to probationary/parole supervision and urgent aftercare has been conducted.
  Also, for the treatment of persons subject to probation/parole supervision, intensive guidance/support has been provided in cooperation with rehabilitation volunteers, such as volunteer probation officers, members of the Women's Association for Rehabilitation Aid and BBS members (see Part 2, Chapter 5, Section 5, 1).
