6 Trends of offenses by persons out of employment

Table 5-2-4-8 shows the trends in the number of persons out of employment in the total number of persons cleared for homicide and the 9 types of violent offenses.
Among the persons cleared for general penal code offenses, the number of persons out of employment excluding students/pupils and housewives, etc. was 64,136 in 1996, but it has been increasing constantly every year, and it reached 90,216 in 2001. By type of offense, it is noteworthy that the number increased since 1996 for all these focused type of offenses. In particular, the number nearly doubled since 1996 for assault, destruction of objects and robbery, which indicates the increase in the number of violent offenses committed for the purpose of causing damage directly to people or objects and offenses committed for the purpose of robbing people of property.
