5 Trends of offenses by organized crime group members

Fig. 5-2-4-7 shows the trends in the rate of organized crime group members to the number of persons cleared for homicide and the 9 types of violent offense (except for indecent assault and breaking and entering). The rate of organized crime group members to the total number of persons cleared for general penal code offenses decreased to 6.0% in 2001. On the other hand, the rate for homicide and the focused 7 types of violent offenses has been gradually decreasing but it was still as high as 18.7% in 2001, which points out the affinity between these types of offenses and organized crime group members. By type of offense, the rate of organized crime group members was high for intimidation, extortion and homicide. However, even in respect of these types of offenses, the rate of organized crime group members has been on the decline on a long-term basis, indicating that the recent anti-organized crime group efforts by the police and other authorities have achieved results.
