Offenders who receive suspended sentences with probationary supervision (probationers) are placed under the supervision for the period of their suspended execution. Also, Regional Parole Boards may decide to release inmates on parole before completion of their sentenced terms. Inmates released on parole (parolees) are placed under parole supervision for the period of their parole. Offenders placed under probation/parole supervision are to receive instruction, supervision, guidance and assistance from probation officers at probation offices and volunteer probation officers, who are private volunteers.
The treatment of offenders in the rehabilitation service is conducted in accordance with the Offenders Rehabilitation Act (Act No. 88 of 2007).
