Halfway houses are institutions that are commissioned, mainly by probation offices, to provide a variety of aid that includes accommodation, meals, employment support, living guidance, etc. to probationers/parolees or those to receive urgent aftercare who have difficulty in becoming independent due to having no residence or no one to rely on. As of April 1, 2012 there were 104 halfway houses nationwide (Source: The Rehabilitation Bureau, Ministry of Justice).
