White paper on crime 2011 Part4/Chapter6/Section2/2
Table 4-6-2-2 shows the number of persons who were granted suspension of execution of the sentence with or without probation and the number of persons who had their suspension of execution of the sentence revoked by reason for the revocation over the last 20 years. The number of persons who had their suspension of execution of the sentence revoked for new convictions involving imprisonment or a heavier punishment without suspension of execution of the sentence for a repeat offense was on an increasing trend from 1991, but then turned to a decreasing trend from 2007, and was 5,563 in 2010 (94.0% of those who had their suspension of execution of the sentence revoked). The percentage of that number in 2010 in number of persons granted suspension of execution of the sentence in the same year was 13.8% (the persons who were granted suspension of execution of the sentence and those who had their suspension of execution of the sentence revoked involve two different groups, and hence strictly speaking this comparison does not indicate the true revocation rate. It is possible, however, to observe a rough trend with the revocation of suspension of execution of the sentence for that year).
