The number of Japanese nationals that left Japan decreased by 3.4% from the previous year to 15,445,684 in 2009 (Source: The Immigration Bureau, the Ministry of Justice).
Examining the status of offenses committed by Japanese nationals outside of Japan, as ascertained by diplomatic establishments abroad through their Japanese citizen protection services, revealed that 501 cases (up 8.4% from the previous year) were committed by 555 Japanese nationals (up 8.0% (id.)) in 2009. Table 1-5-1-1 shows the number of cases committed by Japanese nationals outside of Japan by type of offense in 2009.
