4 Violations of the Stalker Control Act, etc.

  Fig. 1-2-2-4 shows the number of persons newly received by public prosecutors offices for violations of the Stalker Control Act and the Spouse Violence Prevention Act over the last 9 years (See Appendix 1-4).

  The number of persons received for Stalker Control Act violations and for Spouse Violence Prevention Act violations have both been on an increasing trend, but for Spouse Violence Prevention Act violations decreased slightly from the previous year while for Stalker Control Act violations increased by 12.1% from the previous year.
  Amendment of the Spouse Violence Prevention Act by Act No. 113 of 2007 (enforced on January 11, 2008) expanded the protection order system (violation of this order is subject to penal provisions) by enabling the issuance of protection orders pertaining to victims of death threats, etc., protection orders prohibiting phone calls, etc. and restraining orders to prohibit approaches to victims or their families, etc.
