4 Probation/parole supervision

  Foreign probationers/parolees excluding juveniles newly received in 2007 were 1,501, a decrease of 5.5% from 2006. A breakdown by nationality, etc., shows that Chinese (including Taiwanese) were the largest in number with 588 persons, followed by South/North Koreans with 417, Brazilians with 105, Iranians with 61, and Vietnamese with 54 (see Appendix 3-5).
  The number of newly received probationers/parolees excluding juveniles who were visiting foreign nationals in 2007 was 1,204 (down by 6.4% from the previous year), and by type of supervision, the number of prison parolees was 1,166 persons and that of offenders given suspension of execution of sentence with probationary supervision was 38 persons (Source: Annual Report of Statistics on Rehabilitation).
  Fig. 3-1-3-7 shows the number of foreign probationers and parolees excluding juveniles (excluding permanent residents and special permanent residents; hereinafter the same in this subsection) as of the end of each year over the last 10 years. The number of foreign probationers/parolees (excluding juveniles) had generally been on the rise, but remained flat since 2004. The number then decreased for two consecutive years from 2006 and was 901 persons (down by 10.2% from the previous year) in 2007 (for foreign juvenile probationers and parolees, see Part 4, Chapter 2, Section 7).

  As of the end of December 2007, 769 of 811 foreign prison parolees had been classified as to be deported, among whom, eight parolees had been accorded provisional release, 89 persons detained, and 672 already deported (Source: The Rehabilitation Bureau , Ministry of Justice).
