1 Trends in foreign national juvenile offenders

  Fig. 4-2-7-1 shows the trend of the number of foreign national juveniles referred to family courts by public prosecutors offices (excluding negligence in vehicle driving, etc. and violations of road traffic related acts; hereinafter the same in this subsection) over the last 10 years.

  Among visiting foreign national juvenile offenders who were referred to family courts by public prosecutors offices in 2007, those from Brazil were largest in number (27.9%), followed by those from South/North Korea (20.1%), China (including Hong Kong (limited to those who have a passport issued by the Chinese government) and Taiwan; 14.7%), the Philippines (13.6%), Peru (7.0%), and Vietnam (3.1%) (Source: Annual Report of Statistics on Prosecution).
  By type of offense concerning the juveniles above, theft was the highest (49.7%), followed by embezzlement (including embezzlement of lost property; 21.4%), injury (7.2%), and Immigration Control Act violations (5.8%) (Source: Annual Report of Statistics on Prosecution).
