Section 2  Crime Victimization of Japanese Nationals Outside Japan

  According to data ascertained by diplomatic establishments abroad through their Japanese citizen protection service, 5,692 offenses were committed against Japanese nationals outside Japan in 2007 (down by 8.0 % from the previous year), involving 6,220 Japanese nationals as victims (down by 8.4 % (id.)).
  Table 1-5-2-1 shows the number of victimization of Japanese nationals outside Japan in 2007, by type of offense.

  In 2007, the number of Japanese nationals killed outside Japan as crime victims was 18 (up by seven persons from the previous year) and the number of those injured due to crimes was 237 (up by 26 persons (id.)).
