3 Disposition by courts

  Fig. 1-3-1-6 shows the percent distribution of the term of imprisonment (with or without work) for dangerous driving causing death or injury, negligence in the pursuit of social activities, and violations of road traffic related acts, in the court of first instance in 2006.
  Among persons sentenced to imprisonment with or without work, the percentage of unsuspended imprisonment with or without work was 37.8% for dangerous driving causing death or injury, 13.7% for negligence in the pursuit of social activities, and 28.1% for violations of road traffic related acts. Among 133 persons who were not granted suspension of execution of sentence for dangerous driving causing death or injury, persons sentenced to imprisonment with work for over five years were 24 (18.0%).
  In 2006, for negligence in the pursuit of social activities (including causing death or injury through negligence), 216 persons were sentenced to fines in the court of first instance and 79,570 persons were sentenced to fines in summary trial procedure. For violations of road traffic related acts, 592 persons were sentenced to fines in the court of first instance and 521,506 persons were sentenced to fines in summary trial procedure (Source: Annual Report of Judicial Statistics).
