6 Attitude of defendants at trials and feelings of victims Fig. 5-5-2-45 and Fig. 5-5-2-46 show defendants' attitudes at trials and victims' feelings concerning punishments. Most defendants admit their guilt at trials whereas many try to escape their responsibility by denying commitment of the offense or criminal intent. As for feelings concerning punishments among victims and their families, the number of those who clearly demand death penalty is the largest. As a matter of fact, victims of serious offenses and their families demand severe punishments for the perpetrators.
