2 Imprisonment with labor for life

   Table 2-3-3-2 shows the number of defendants sentenced to imprisonment with labor for life in the ordinary first instance over the last 10 years, by type of offense. The number of defendants sentenced to imprisonment with labor for life had increased since 1998, and in 2002, it increased by 10 from the previous year to 98. The percentage of the defendants sentenced to imprisonment with labor for life in all the defendants found guilty was 2.8% for homicide and 8.3% for robbery resulting in death or bodily injury. For other offenses than homicide and robbery, 3 defendants were sentenced for arson and 1 for "rape etc." (Source: Annual Report of Judicial Statistics).
