Table V-4 shows the number of victims and the crime rate for rape and indecent assault cases recognized by the police in the10-year period from1990. The number of victims and the crime rate for rape stayed largely on a par from1990to1996,edged upwards from1997to1998,and leveled off in1999.
  The number of victims and the crime rate for indecent assault rose almost constantly from1991to1997. Following a temporary decline in1998,they rose substantially in1999.
