4 Relationship between victims and suspects

  Fig. V-6 classifies cases cleared in1999for each offense according to whether the offender was an acquaintance of the victim. Homicide and bodily injury are committed relatively often by relatives or other acquaintances, while sexual and property offenses are more often committed by non-acquaintances. Within sexual offenses, rape is more often committed by acquaintances than indecent assault. Within property offenses, fraud and extortion are more frequently committed by acquaintances than robbery and larceny.
