Table 3-4-4 shows the status with the readmission to juvenile training schools (refers to readmission by a new ruling to commit them to juvenile training schools; hereinafter the same in this subsection) or imprisonment in penal institutions (limited to imprisonment for the first time; hereinafter the same in this subsection) of juveniles discharged from juvenile training schools during the period of 2002 through to 2011. The percentage of those readmitted within five years, inclusive of the year of discharge, was 14.5 to 16.4% (15.5 to 17.3% of males and 6.7 to 9.2% of females), while the percentage of those imprisoned in penal institutions within five years, inclusive of the year of discharge (the year of the last discharge for those admitted to juvenile training schools multiple times), was 8.1 to 9.6% (8.7 to 10.7% of males and 1.5 to 3.2% of females) (Source: Annual Report of Statistics on Correction and the Judicial System Department, Minister’s Secretariat, Ministry of Justice).
