Fig. 2-5-1-1 shows the number and the parole rate of released inmates (limited to those who were released from penal institutions on parole or upon completion of their term of imprisonment) since 1949. The parole rate was declining for six consecutive years from 2005, but then rose to 51.2% in 2011 (up 2.1 points from the previous year). By gender, it was 49.6% (up 2.0 points from the previous year) with males and 70.3% (up 1.2 points (id.)) with females (Source: Annual Report of Statistics on Correction).
