4 Termination of probation / parole supervision, etc. Fig. 2-5-2-6 shows the percent distribution of probationers/parolees whose probation / parole supervision was terminated in 2008, by reason for termination.95.1% of parolees and 70.4% of probationers had their probation / parole supervision terminated upon completion of their term. However, 4.5% (726 persons) of parolees had their parole supervision revoked and 26.4% (1,244 persons) of probationers had their suspension of execution of the sentence revoked (note that simply comparing these proportions is meaningless since the length the of probation and parole supervision differ). Fig. 2-5-2-6 Percent distribution of probationers/parolees whose probation / parole supervision was terminated by reason (2008) Examining the employment status at the time of probation/parole termination among the probationers/parolees whose probation / parole supervision was terminated by revocation in 2008 revealed that the revocation rate was remarkably high among those unemployed, as 1.9% of employed parolees and 12.7% of unemployed parolees had their parole supervision terminated by revocation and 12.9% of employed probationers and 52.5% of unemployed probationers had their probation terminated by revocation. (Source: Annual Report of Statistics on Rehabilitation).Fig. 2-5-2-7 shows the percent distribution of probationers/parolees by employment status at the commencement/ termination of their probation / parole supervision in 2008. Although it is rather difficult to make an exact comparison as those whose probation / parole supervision started and those whose probation/parole supervision terminated are not necessarily the same, the proportion of employed persons was generally higher at the termination of probation / parole supervision than at the commencement. However, 24.5% of parolees and 31.9% of probationers had their probation / parole supervision terminated while unemployed.
