1 Domestic violence

  Fig. 4-1-5-1 shows the number of reported cases for juvenile domestic violence over the last 10 years, by their educational or employment situation.
  The number of reported cases of juvenile domestic violence declined after hitting a peak at 1,397 cases in 1983, but increased significantly in 2000 and has been over 1,000 cases ever since. The number increased by 1.5% from the previous year to 1,294 cases in 2006. Junior high school students form the highest proportion, by educational or employment status in each year, and in 2006, they accounted for 43.7% of total juvenile domestic violence cases (The Community Safety Bureau, National Police Agency).

  The target or victim of such domestic violence is most often the mothers accounting for 800 cases (61.8%), followed by material objects (family property etc.) for 140 cases (10.8%), relatives in the same household for 130 cases (10.0%), fathers for 129 cases (10.0%), siblings for 72 cases (5.6%), and others for 23 cases (1.8%) (Source: The Community Safety Bureau, National Police Agency).
