Section 2  Crime Victimization of Japanese Nationals Outside Japan

  According to data ascertained by diplomatic establishments abroad through their Japanese citizen protection service, 6,186 offenses were committed against Japanese nationals outside Japan in 2006 (down by 2.6 % from the previous year), involving 6,792 Japanese nationals as victims (down by 3.9 % (id.)).
  Table 1-5-2-1 shows the number of victimization of Japanese nationals outside Japan in 2006, by type of offense.

  The number of Japanese nationals killed outside Japan as crime victims was 11 (down by 54.2 % from the previous year) in 2006. And the number of those injured due to crimes was 211 (down by 31.3% from the previous year) in 2006.
