Section 2  Crime Victimization of Japanese Nationals Outside Japan

  According to data ascertained by diplomatic establishments abroad through their Japanese citizen protection service, 6,352 offenses were committed against Japanese nationals outside Japan in 2005 (down by 0.9% from the previous year), involving 7,070 Japanese nationals as victims (down by 1.8% (id.)). Table 1-5-2-1 shows the number of victimization of Japanese nationals outside Japan in 2005, by type of offense.

  The number of Japanese nationals killed outside Japan as crime victims has ranged within 10-30 since 1995, and was 24 in 2005. The number of those injured due to crimes has been around 300 every year since 2001, and was 307 in 2005.
