3 Disposition by courts

  Fig. 1-3-1-6 shows the percent ratio of the term of imprisonment (with or without work) for dangerous driving causing death or injury, negligence in the pursuit of social activities, and violations of road traffic related acts, in the court of first instance in 2005.
  The percentage of unsuspended imprisonment with or without work was 30.6% for dangerous driving causing death or injury, 13.4% for negligence in the pursuit of social activities, and 28.0% for violations of road traffic related acts. Among 90 persons who were not granted suspension of execution of sentence for dangerous driving causing death or injury, persons imprisoned for over five years were 14 (15.6%).
  In 2005, for negligence in the pursuit of social activities (including causing death or injury through negligence), 251 persons were sentenced to fines in the court of first instance and 84,672 persons were sentenced to fines in summary trial procedure. For violations of road traffic related acts, 646 persons were sentenced to fines in the court of first instance and 577,184 persons were sentenced to fines in summary trial procedure (Source: Annual Report of Judicial Statistics).
