As outlined above,correction and rehabilitation services of adult offenders in Japan have developed under the main theme of"rehabilitation and reintegration into society of offenders,"and both schemes have achieved success to a certain degree with the earnest support of relevant officers and volunteers.
  However,the recent increase in crime and changes in the nature of offenders pose various challenges for the current schemes for correction and rehabilitation services.The following chapters will analyze and examine such challenges in detail.
