Table 2-3-4-1 shows whether or not the defendants were detained, for all the defendants finally disposed in the ordinary first instance in 2002. The total number of defendants detained by district courts in 2002 was 60,404 and the detention rate was 79.9% at the almost same level as the previous year (79.5%). Of these defendants, 8,085 were released on bail and the bail rate was 13.4% at the almost same level as the previous year (13.6%).
