Since 1999, advisers to support victims have been assigned at public prosecutors offices throughout Japan. These advisors are engaged in counseling victims, guiding or accompanying victims in courts to observe proceedings, assisting with requests for inspection of records, explaining criminal proceedings, etc., and establishing the network to link victims with victim support organizations and groups.
