Table 2-3-4-1 shows the status of the all defendants finally disposed in the first instance in 2001. The total number of defendants detained by district courts in 2001 was 56,710 and the detention rate increased by 2.1 points from the previous year to 79.5%. The number of defendants released on bail by district courts in 2001 was 7,734 and the bail rate decreased by 0.4% from the previous year to 13.6%.
