3 Imprisonment with or without labor for a limited term

  As shown in Appendix 2-4, among the defendants sentenced to imprisonment with or without labor for a limited term by district courts in 2001, most of them (42.8% of the total) were sentenced to 1 year or more but less than 2 years, followed by those sentenced to 2 years or more but 3 years or less (26.3%), 6 months or more but less than 1 year (12.5%), and less than 6 months (11.3%). Only 4,854 defendants (7.0%) were sentenced to imprisonment for more than 3 years. Among them, 281 (0.4%) were sentenced to more than 10 years. By type of offense, 133 of them were for homicide and 75 for robbery resulting in death or bodily injury (see Appendix 2-4 ).
