Section 2 Reception of Suspected Cases

   Fig. 2-2-2-1 shows the percent distribution of the number of persons newly received by public prosecutors offices in 2001.
  In 2001, the total number of persons newly received by public prosecutors offices was 2,206,980, up by 32,113 from the previous year. The number of those received for penal code offenses increased by 50,727 from the previous year to 1,197,130 persons (54.2% of the total) and the number for special law offenses decreased by 18,614 from the previous year to 1,009,850 (45.8%). More specifically, the number for penal code offenses excluding professional negligence in traffic accidents increased by 17,372 from the previous year to 309,894 (14.0%) and the number for special law offenses excluding road traffic violations increased by 2,857 from the previous year to 93,761 (4.2%). By type of offense, the numbers for larceny, embezzlement, fraud, assault and robbery showed significant increases, except for professional negligence in traffic accidents (see Appendix 2-2 ).
