Section 1 Trends in Membership of Organized Crime Groups and Offenses by Organized Crime Groups The number of organized crime group members(that is, members and quasi-members of organized crime groups)showed a downward trend from1993,only to increase gradually after1996. The number stood at about83,100as of December31,1999,up by1,800from the previous year.46inter-group rivalry incidents occurred in1999(down by2from the previous year), and firearms were used in91.3%of the cases(up10.0points). In1999,32,511organized crime group members were cleared for offenses other than traffic-related law violations such as traffic professional negligence, down by474from the previous year. By offense, most of the organized crime group members(7,933persons)were cleared for Stimulant Drug Control Law violations, followed by bodily injury(4,618persons)and larceny(3,001persons).
