2 Life imprisonment

  Table II-9 shows the number of offenders sentenced to life imprisonment in ordinary first instance in the 10 years up to 1998, by type of offense.
  In 1998, the ratio of defendants sentenced to life imprisonment among all defendants found guilty, by type of offense, was 2.0% for homicide and 6.7% for robbery resulting in injury, etc. (that is, "robbery resulting in death or bodily injury"and"rape in the course of robbery";the same applies below in this Chapter).
