2 Violent offenses

  Fig. I-5 shows trends in the number of cases reported, the number of cases cleared, and the number of persons cleared for bodily injury, assault, intimidation, and extortion over the last ten years.

  In 1999, reported cases of bodily injury increased by 757 (3.9%) compared to the previous year, while the number of cases cleared and the number of persons cleared both decreased, falling by 248 (1.6%) and 843 (3.7%) respectively. Reported cases of assault increased by 425 (5.8%) compared to the previous year, but the number of cases cleared and the number of persons cleared both decreased, falling by 284 (5.6%) and 380 (6.5%) respectively.
  Reported cases of intimidation increased by 24 (2.5%) compared to the previous year, but the number of cases cleared and the number of persons cleared both decreased, falling by 41 (4.5%) and 65 (6.8%) respectively. Reported cases of extortion increased by 868 (6.2%)compared to the previous year, but the number of cases cleared and the number of persons cleared both decreased, falling by 574 (7.4%)and 580 (5.8%) respectively.
  The crime rate in 1999 by type of offense was 16.0 for bodily injury,6.2for assault,0.8for intimidation, and 11.7 for extortion.
