Section2 Reception of Suspected Cases

  Fig.2-2-2-1 shows percent distribution of persons newly received by the public prosecutors office in2004by type of offense.
  In2004,total persons newly received by the public prosecutors office were2,163,854,increase of769from the previous year.Those received for penal code offenses were1,270,596(58.7%)and those for special law offenses were893,258(41.3%).Since1998,there has been a continuous increase of penal code offenses and decrease of special law offenses.In2004,the number of persons received for penal code offenses increased by25,205and for special law offenses decreased by24,436from the previous year.
  The number of persons received for non-traffic penal code offenses increased by5.0%to367,011compared to the previous year.There were significant increases for counterfeiting of currency(by45.0%from2003),distribution of obscene literature(by29.5%),fraud(by19.6%),gambling/lottery violation(by16.4%),bribery(by14.9%),and assault(by13.1%).The number of those received for professional negligence in traffic accidents was903,585,an increase of0.9%from the previous year.
  In addition,persons received for violations of road traffic related laws decreased3.6%from the previous year to782,895but those for special law offenses excluding violations of road traffic related laws increased by5.0%to110,363from the previous year.There were significant increases for Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Law violations(by16.5%from2003)and Waste Disposal Law violations(by13.5%).(see Appendix1-4 and 2-1 )
