Section3 Arrest and Detention of Suspects

  Table2-2-3-1 shows the arrest and detention of suspects in cases disposed by public prosecutors(excluding cases of professional negligence in traffic accidents and violations of road traffic related laws;hereinafter the same in this Section)by type of offense in2004.
  The percentage of the suspects arrested and detained by police,etc.or public prosecutors out of all the suspects(excluding corporate bodies)was31.8%.
  Detention request rate(rate in the cases of suspects were arrested where public prosecutors requested detention of suspects)was93.3%.Judges rejected0.3%of these detention requests from public prosecutors.
  The total number of persons who were subject to detention requests from public prosecutors has grown.It was115,625in2000,121,696in2001,129,345in2002,138,900in2003,and141,643in2004(Source:Annual Report of Statistics on Prosecution).
