Foreign nationals who violate the Immigration Control Act, including illegally overstaying, etc., are deported from Japan in accordance with deportation procedures (including departure order procedures; hereinafter the same in this subsection). The number of foreign nationals deported from Japan in 2011 due to violations of the Immigration Control Act was 20,659 (down 14.7% from the previous year). By type of violation, illegally overstaying was the largest at 15,925 (77.1%), followed by illegal entry at 2,862 (13.9%) and engaging in activities out of permission by their status of residence at 542 (2.6%). By nationality, etc., the largest number were from China (30.7%), followed by the Philippines (21.0%) and the Republic of Korea (12.7%) (Source: The Immigration Bureau, Ministry of Justice).
