Judicial assistance refers to cooperation between Japan and foreign countries in delivering documents or examining evidence in accordance with a request from a court. In 2011 there were 31 cases where requests were made by foreign courts to Japanese courts for the judicial assistance of delivering documents and 13 cases of examining evidence. No request was made by Japan to foreign countries for judicial assistance in 2011 (Source: The General Secretariat, Supreme Court).
