3 Probation/parole supervision

Of persons placed under probation/parole supervision (excluding short-term probation for traffic offenses and short-term probation of 10 months or less (See Subsection 3, Section 1, Chapter 2, Part 4); hereinafter the same in this subsection) the number of those classified as “persons with mental disorders, etc.” under the categorized treatment system as of the end of 2009 was 1,809 (up 4.1% from the end of the previous year) and the percentage of probationers/parolees 4.5% (Source: The Rehabilitation Bureau, Ministry of Justice). Probation offices provide advice to those probationers/parolees in ensuring that they are provided with the appropriate medical and welfare treatment, as needed, while also cooperating with medical/welfare institutions and their families.
