3 Deportation

  Foreign nationals who violates certain provisions of the Immigration Control Act including illegally overstaying, etc., faces deportation procedures (including departure order procedures; hereinafter the same in this subsection) that can be used to deport any such person from Japan. The number of foreign nationals for whom deportation procedures were taken was 39,382 in 2008 (down 6,120 or 13.4% from the previous year). By type of violation, illegally overstaying was the largest at 31,045 persons (78.8%), followed by illegal entry 6,136 (15.6%), and engaging in activities other than permitted under the status of residence 1,153 (2.9%) (Source: The Immigration Bureau, Ministry of Justice).
