3 Deportation

  For foreign nationals who violate the Immigration Control Act, such as overstaying in Japan, deportation procedures (including departure order procedures; hereinafter the same in this chapter) are taken to deport such persons.
  Foreign nationals for whom deportation procedures were taken for Immigration Control Act violations in 2007 were 45,502, a decrease of 10,908 (19.3%) from the previous year. Reviewing by type of violation, overstay was the largest with 35,417 persons (77.8%), followed by illegal entry with 7,454 persons (16.4%), and engaging in activities other than those permitted with 1,409 persons (3.1%) (Source: The Immigration Bureau, Ministry of Justice).
