2 Crime prevention activities

(1) The Brighter Society Campaign, etc.
  The contents of crime prevention activities in rehabilitation include various activities, such as enlightening of public opinions and improvement of social environment. Various events in which residents participate are held, such as public relations activities on the streets, lecture meetings, residents' small meetings to talk about delinquency problems, counseling on juvenile delinquency, open case seminars for talks based on crime/delinquency cases, efforts to strengthen collaboration with junior high schools, sports meetings, workshops, and events for parent and child.
  Probation offices, volunteer probation officers' associations, Women's Associations for Rehabilitation Aid, BBS Associations and others implement these activities throughout the year in cooperation with various relevant agencies and organizations, and the Brighter Society Campaign is conducted with emphasis on the month of July every year for this campaign advocated by the Ministry of Justice. A total of about 2,830,000 people participated in various events, such as public relations activities and lectures in the case of the 57th Movement for Brighter Society in 2007 (Source: The Rehabilitation Bureau, Ministry of Justice).
(2) Volunteer crime prevention activities
  Voluntary crime prevention activities are actively pursued by residents in local communities, and as of December 31, 2007, the number of crime prevention volunteer groups which the National Police Agency grasped was 37,774 (up by 18.3% from the previous year), participated in by 2,342,279 members (up by 18.3% from the previous year).
