Section3 Property Damage

  Table3-1-3-1 shows the trends of reported property offenses(robbery,extortion,larceny,fraud,embezzlement and conversion of lost property)and the amount of property damage(including cases in which victims are corporations or other organizations and bodies)over the last10years.

Table3-1-3-1  Number of reported property offenses and the amount of damage(1995-2004)

  In2004,the total amount of damage in cash in property offenses was approximately128.93billion yen.By type of offense,damage by fraud was about60.26billion yen,increasing significantly by57.8%from the previous year,which accounted for46.7%of the total amount of damage in cash.Following this,that by larceny was about52.27billion yen(down by12.1%(id.)),accounting for40.5%.
  By modus operandi for larceny,the amount of damage by burglary theft was about28.11billion yen,accounting for21.8%of the total amount of damage in cash,while that by non-burglary theft was about23.63billion yen,accounting for18.3%(Source:Annual Report of Criminal Statistics on Police).
