Section6 Crime Prevention Activities in Rehabilitation Services Crime prevention activities are in a major part of rehabilitation services,in combination with the activities to promote reform and rehabilitation of offenders and juvenile delinquents. Including a wide range of activities from the promotion of public awareness for crime prevention to improvement of social environment, they are characterized by an emphasis on the promotion of a sense of social unity among local people for crime prevention in communities.Another emphasis is put on for local people to develop better understanding of and more interest in the rehabilitation of offenders and juvenile delinquents to accept them as their community members and assist their rehabilitation, with the aim of preventing them from committing crime or delinquency again. While street public relations is one of the most typical crime prevention activities, other various events and activities that are resident participation/experience-oriented are conducted as follows:public lectures, dialogue meetings called"mini-meetings"on delinquency problems, counseling services on juvenile delinquency, activities for eliminating detrimental books/magazines from communities, open case studies on juvenile delinquents, sports events, workshops(learning by doing),and parent-child interaction events. The activities are carried out throughout the year by probation offices, voluntary probation officer associations, women's associations for rehabilitation aid and BBS associations,in cooperation with other related organizations and associations.Among them,"Movement for a Brighter Society",the largest series of such crime prevention activities,is carried out in a systematic manner mainly in July of every year.Over3.45million people participated in the wide variety of activities under the Movement across the country in2003.
