4 Re-admission

  Table II-15 shows the proportion of inmates discharged in 1994 but re-admitted by the end of 1999, by reason for discharge. From this we may observe a tendency for inmates released on termination of sentence to commit repeat offenses sooner than those released on parole. On the other hand, viewing the time until repeat offense(the period from the date of discharge after completion of the previous sentence until the date of committing the offense pertaining to re-admission)of re-admitted inmates in 1999 by the type of previous offense, larceny was the most common with 41.9% for periods of less than one year, followed by Stimulant Drug Control Law violations with 25.7% (see Appendix II-10 ).

  Table II-16 shows the cumulative ratios of inmates discharged between 1990 and 1994 who were re-admitted within 5 years, including the year of discharge.
