4 Sexual offenses

  Fig. I-8 shows trends in the number of cases reported, the number of cases cleared, and the number of persons cleared for rape and indecent assault over the last ten years.

  In 1999, reported cases of rape decreased by 16 (0.9%) compared to the previous year, while the number of cases cleared and the number of persons cleared also decreased, falling by 283 (17.1%) and 120 (7.9%) respectively.
  For indecent assault, on the other hand, the number of cases reported increased by 1,095 (25.8%), the number of cases cleared decreased by 110 (3.1%), and the number of persons cleared increased by 36 (1.9%) compared to the previous year.
  The crime rate in 1999 by type of offense was1.5for rape and4.2for indecent assault.
