Fig. 2-4-2-3 shows the trends in the number of newly imprisoned offenders since 1982 and the female inmate rate (the rate of females to all newly imprisoned offenders) (see Appendix 2-6 ).
  The number of newly imprisoned offenders in 2001 increased by 971 (3.5%) from the previous year to 28,469.
