1 Present situation of serious juvenile offenders

We have analyzed the present situation of serious juvenile offenders mainly by dividing them into four classification types of offenses(Group Type,Single Type,Family Type, and Traffic Type). Each type can be summarized as follows.
Group Type juvenile offenders accounted for nearly three-quarters of overall serious juvenile offenders. Many of them did not do well in school or could not continue their jobs and spent most of their time in pursuit of pleasure.Their attitude of trying to assert their power by violence and alleviating their boredom caused them to commit serious crimes. They did not have a sense of belonging to schools, working places,or local communities, and seemed to have tried to resolve their maladaptation and maintain their power by strengthening connections with similar companies and senior delinquents and by associating with them.
Single Type juvenile offenders were the smallest in number. Many of them have serious problems in their attributes. Some showed a violent nature from the early stages and their problems in their attributes led them to commit serious crimes, and others could not deal with the emotional entanglements with their lovers appropriately, resulting in killing victims by acts driven by wild emotion. There were also cases where the gap between motives and the heinousness of the results was too large,or the motives themselves were incomprehensible and mental disorders were suspected.
Family Type juvenile offenders had various family problems in a complex way,and their family problems became condensed and developed into serious crimes. In cases where fathers were victims, juvenile offenders resorted to violence to gain a dominant position over their fathers, resulting in committing serious crimes. In contrast,in cases where mothers were victims, mothers had no significant problems, but juvenile offenders had problems such as mental disorders. There were also cases of infanticide where girls, who wanted to maintain their position at home as good daughters, could not tell of their pregnancy to their parents, and killed their new-born babies.
Traffic Type juvenile offenders were older at the time of crime than those classified into other types, and had relatively fewer problems at home and in their daily life. There were cases where driving caused them serious consequences due to their attitude for disregarding traffic rules, although they were brought up in an ordinary family environment, had no record of offenses, were employed and spending their lives as normal members of society.
