4 Provision of information concerning release, etc. of inmates sentenced for violent sexual offenses targeting children

Violent sexual offenses targeting children, such as the girl abduction-murder case in Nara, have become one of the serious social issues. The Ministry of Justice and the National Police Agency have come to share information on whereabouts of released offenders who have committed such crime since June1,2005.
Violent sexual offenses targeting children significantly affect children's physical and mental health and create grave anxiety among parents and local residents. Therefore,in order for the National Police Agency to prevent released offenders from repeating crimes or to take measures required for immediate actions against such crimes, the Ministry of Justice offers necessary cooperation and provides information concerning release, etc.of relevant inmates.
Information may be provided for those sentenced inmates whose offenses are either indecent assault,rape,abduction/kidnapping for the purpose of performing an obscene act,or rape on the occasion of robbery against children younger than13.When the relevant inmate is released on parole or on termination of his/her sentence(imprisonment with or without labor),the warden of a penal institution notifies the National Police Agency of such information as the name of the inmate expected to be released, expected date of release, date of entry, expected returning place, and other items, generally one month prior to the expected date of release.
