Fig. 4-5-1-1 shows the number of persons with mental disorders, etc. (refers to persons with mental disorders and those suspected of having a mental disorder; hereinafter the same in this section) cleared for non-traffic penal code offenses over the last 10 years.

Of 322,620 persons cleared for non-traffic penal code offenses in 2010, 1,326 (up 6.3% from the previous year) had mental disorders and 1,556 (down 5.1% (id.)) were suspected of having a mental disorder. The percentage of persons with mental disorders, etc. was 0.9%.

Table 4-5-1-2 shows the number of persons with mental disorders, etc. cleared for non-traffic penal code offenses by type of offense in 2010. By type of offense, the number of persons cleared was the largest for theft, accounting for 40.3% of the total of persons with mental disorders, etc. cleared (2,882). In addition, the percentage of persons with mental disorders, etc. of total persons cleared for respective offenses was high for arson (15.5%) and homicide (12.0%).
